Ros Woodin
Vocals & fiddle
Ros started her musical journey at the age of three, sitting on her mother’s knee at her choir rehearsals. She then started singing in her own choirs and performing in school shows. Ros then began piano and violin lessons and started formal singing training. She was awarded a music scholarship to Millfield School, after which, she moved to London, continuing her musical journey, singing in choirs and bands and playing in orchestras. She performed on the John Peel Radio One show with her band Exit 13. Ros trained with the Benedetti Foundation in Violin Pedagogy. She then became a violin and singing teacher at Herts Music Service and is also a violin tutor for the Benslow Late Starter Strings Scheme, delivering private lessons and orchestral workshops. Ros performs regularly with the Hitchin Chamber Orchestra and various quartets. In March 2025 Ros was invited to a reception with King Charles at Windsor Castle in recognition of her services to music, Ros joined Greensward in the summer of ’25 and has really enjoyed embracing the folk rock genre and adding it to her musical arsenal.
Jonathan Roberts
Lead and acoustic guitars, harmonica, vocals
Jonathan has played the electric and acoustic guitar for more years than he cares to remember in ensembles including blues bands, country rockers, covers bands and folk duos. He also plays lap steel, mandolin, bass, harmonica and keyboards with varying degrees of proficiency. He co-wrote a musical at college and has sung with jazz groups and a close harmony quartet. He has written and recorded 10 solo albums, predominantly folk and roots flavoured, many featuring members of Greensward, and contributes to the various Feedback File albums.
David Edington
Mandolin, octave mandolin, guitar, vocals
David grew up in Edinburgh playing classical violin, Scottish fiddle and rock guitar. Mandolins are tuned like a violin and picked like a guitar, so he’s been a fan ever since he discovered that in a smoky folk club in the early nineties. David has toured with orchestras, performed with Michelle Shocked at the Edinburgh Fringe, recorded a Peel session for Radio One and been a member of numerous Hertfordshire bands including the Feedback File and Beau Jangles (with Greensward’s own Jonathan Roberts).
Robin Hall
Drums, percussion, vocals
Robin’s dad was a drummer, so it was inevitable that he would end up at the back, watching bandmates perform. He learned to count to four at an early age! Folk rock has been in his veins since the early 70s and it isn’t going away any time soon. Robin is a Moonraker but has lived up North so long that the accent has (mostly) gone. He admires the drumming of Dave Mattacks (of course), Simon Phillips (Mike Oldfield) and Charlie Antolini (we’re all jazz drummers at heart!).
Bob Rushworth
Bass guitar
When Bob realised that taking a guitar to a folk club and playing a couple of songs got him in for nothing it opened up a whole new world for him. Playing floor spots on guitar, mandolin and bouzouki in a duo and solo, he has calculated that he must have seen over 450 folk club gigs across southern England. In 1982 he pursued his love of Irish folk music to the West of Ireland. After taking in the Ballisodare folk festival in Sligo he travelled down the coast to Clare with his waterlogged tent and a portable tape recorder with which he recorded traditional musicians in pubs along the way. Folk music is in his blood, and he hopes that comes across in his playing with Greensward.
